The presence of specialized infrastructure and community support systems allows biotech firms to scale up efficiently while drawing from a strong local talent pool.

Approximately 70% of working-age residents in biotech-heavy areas like Berkeley and Emeryville hold a bachelor’s degree or higher. This access to skilled labor is bolstered by universities and specialized training programs that equip workers with the knowledge required for complex biotech roles. Nirdosh Jagota highlights that this concentration of skilled professionals drives consistent innovation as companies benefit from a steady influx of scientists, engineers, and healthcare professionals.
