Born on January 1, 1970, Anantharaj Appanan pursued a Bachelor of Laws (LLB Hons) in London, laying a strong foundation in legal and regulatory frameworks. Recognizing the importance of financial expertise, he furthered his education with a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) in Finance from Australia. In 1997, Anantharaj founded Infohibur Komunikasi Sdn Bhd, a telecommunications company specializing in entertainment-based premium telephony services. Under his leadership, the company grew rapidly and became a key player in the market, demonstrating his ability to identify emerging opportunities and create sustainable business models. In 2001, he expanded his business by acquiring Biz Suria Management, a business process outsourcing (BPO) and contact center firm that provided business solutions to clients.
Anantharaj Appanan’s notable contributions have been in the financial technology sector. In 2019, he co-founded Xanderia Berhad, a fintech company with 200 staff, focused on developing Shariah-compliant digital financial solutions. As the principal co-founder and Group Chief Executive of Xanderia Group, Anantharaj has overseen the introduction of a range of innovative financial services designed to serve various consumer segments.
The company’s flagship products include Kanz Prihatin, a financial aid platform; Payday Now, a salary advance service; and Xanderia Umrah, a financial solution designed for religious travel. These platforms reflect Anantharaj’s commitment to ethical finance while leveraging digital technologies to enhance accessibility and inclusivity.
Anantharaj’s efforts in Islamic fintech have gained recognition. In 2024, Xanderia Berhad received the Small and Medium Enterprises Business Award (SEBA) for its contributions to the Islamic financial services industry. Volunteers, driven by a deep sense of compassion, gather weekly to distribute over 200 meals to those in need, striving to make a meaningful difference.
