The stories of today’s most distinguished individuals are frequently focused on success. However, people overlook that most successes were formed by endeavors with nothing but a purpose-driven vision. Confronted with tides against them, they stayed committed, constant in their actions towards the betterment of themselves and persistent in the intent of witnessing their goals come to life. This perseverance allowed Dion Coopwood, seasoned financial literacy coach, to ascend from life-given adversaries into the upper echelons of the finance industry. Equipped with his hopes and dreams, his positively propelled core will not slow down and will continue to strive for greatness.
Like many of us, Dion had a rough upbringing. A Chicago native, he grew up with his mom in the Southern part of the city. “Growing up in Chicago, we understand that it was not easy. Life just necessarily was not fair. I grew up in a broken home. Did not have my dad, no relationship there, probably met him about four or five times, to be honest with you.” he says on the show Inside The Vault with AshCash on the Earn Your Leisure Youtube channel.
The journey was not easy, but it was a learning experience for Dion. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the Southern Illinois University in Carbondale in 2008 and worked as a Store Manager for Sprint and, eventually, T-Mobile for more than seven years combined. These experiences enhanced his social skills and customer service expertise, which helped him throughout the next few years of his life. In addition, he also functioned as the Regional Marketing Director for Capital Choice Financial Group, receiving numerous distinctions and recognition within his four-year stay at the company.
His life had another significant change when he married his wife. The heavens blessed them with three children, and he highly values fatherhood. “Even though I did not have a relationship with a [father figure] growing up and somebody to show me the way, I am going to allow that situation to motivate and inspire me to be the best father figure, the best individual I can be to my family,” Dion shares in the interview. Dion is also taking care of his mom to give back to the important figures in his life.
Armed with his purpose-driven attitude, He established Dominate the Decade University backing it with his extensive six-year tenure as a financial literacy educator. “I started Dominate the Decade to impact the culture from a financial perspective, to help people learn how to leverage the bank’s money so you can live the lifestyle you deserve and start, grow, or scale a business,” he mentioned on a recent Facebook post.
Driven by his passion for helping people struggling with credit and finances go out of the financial burden cycle, he established the mentorship group dedicated to equipping the community with the keys to financial breakthroughs by giving lessons about financial literacy and mentorship. At its roots, Dominate the Decade helps individuals, entrepreneurs, and small business owners understand how to enhance their credit rapidly and establish business credit, so they can leverage both to start, grow, and scale a business and live the lifestyle they deserve.
