Success often arises from adversity and resilience. In the pursuit of one’s dreams, Cris Daymon encountered numerous hardships and setbacks, but their unwavering determination and belief in themselves ultimately led to remarkable achievements. Cris’s inspiring journey from a Filipino writer to the position of Editor-in-Chief serves as a powerful testament to the idea that every painful experience can indeed pave the way for a triumphant ending.
Cris’s path to success has been strewn with challenges right from the beginning. Their story began when they arrived in Dubai in 2015 and embarked on a career in customer service and sales. Little did they know that a chance encounter with the renowned Filipino designer Michael Cinco would alter the trajectory of their life forever. Recognizing Cris’s talent as a writer, Michael Cinco collaborated with them, and soon their work graced the pages of prestigious international publications, including Dolce Magazine in Canada, Deamina Magazine in Milan, Italy, and many more.
But Cris was not content with the blossoming success. They expanded their horizons, venturing into the world of fashion and lifestyle writing for newspapers in both Dubai and the Philippines. Their work resonated with readers across the globe, from London to Germany to the USA, solidifying their position as a respected writer in the fashion industry. Challenges were not in short supply on this new career path, but Cris embraced them as fresh adventures. Today, they hold the esteemed title of resident writer for VICTOR Fashion Magazine and also contribute to Illustrado Magazine.
Nonetheless, life is seldom a smooth journey. In March 2020, Cris lost their job as a researcher for a semi-government company, plunging them into a state of depression. The uncertainty of unemployment in a foreign country weighed heavily on their shoulders. Yet, the turning point in their journey came when a friend suggested that they apply for a position as a COVID-19 nurse. Not only did they secure the job, but they rapidly ascended to the role of team leader of the Swab Team in Ajman and later the head nurse in an Abu Dhabi quarantine facility. Today, they are a COVID-19 vaccination nurse in Dubai, administering vaccines to CEOs, news anchors, and prominent figures in the media and fashion industry.
Cris’s journey encapsulates the resilience and determination needed to surmount life’s obstacles. Even when the pandemic left them jobless in the medical field, they embraced a new opportunity. They joined a Filipino Dubai-based magazine, significantly elevating its popularity within a mere six months. Unfortunately, they were unexpectedly dismissed in September, enduring humiliation on social media and the circulation of false narratives aimed at discrediting them. Once more, depression casts its dark shadow over their life.
Depression is a formidable adversary that cannot be easily defeated with hope alone. It’s a battle that must be endured, a weight that seems impossible to lift. In times like these, it is essential to talk about depression and emotions openly and without shame. Depression is not a sign of weak character, and it’s crucial to educate society on this matter.
Thankfully, their story takes a positive turn, as Cris found support and encouragement from those who believed in their potential. Janice Delima Tentler, CEO of Alegre de Pilipinas and Mrs. Great Lakes Earth 2022, and Mrs. Philippines International Universe 2023, who is a staunch advocate for mental health, recommended them to Katniss Griffiths, the owner of IHollywood Lifestyle and Fashion Magazine. This recommendation marked a pivotal moment in Cris’s career, as they was appointed as the Editor-in-Chief of the US-based magazine, marking a historic milestone for Filipino writers in the Middle East.
This journey, from a swab nurse to the esteemed position of Editor-in-Chief, is a testament to Cris’s unyielding spirit and their commitment to personal growth. They continually embrace new challenges, welcome change, and persist in serving humanity with the same passion that Florence Nightingale once embodied. Their determination to help and care for others remains steadfast, even as their career path evolves. Their achievements, including winning Fashion Influencer of the Year for two consecutive years, underscore their relentless pursuit of excellence and personal growth.
As they embark on their journey as Editor-in-Chief, they have discovered another purpose in life: giving back to the community. They have taken up the cause of fighting against HIV/AIDS, viewing it as a lifelong commitment. Their advocacy extends to raising awareness and support for children with HIV/AIDS under Project Red Ribbon’s Duyan.
Cris’s story stands as a testament to the notion that the road to success is anything but easy. It is a path filled with trials, setbacks, and the need to adapt to changing circumstances. In the face of adversity, Cris Daymon, a Filipino writer turned Editor-in-Chief, has displayed unwavering resilience and an unwavering commitment to making a lasting impact on the world stage. Their journey serves as an inspiration, reminding us all that every painful story has the potential for a successful ending.
