Khabby Lame has grown to become the most popular star on TikTok two years after setting up an account on the social media platform after losing his job due to the pandemic.
On Wednesday, American star Charli D’Amelio, 18, was officially surpassed by Khabane Lame, 22, who had previously held the title. Lame had 142.8 million followers as of Thursday afternoon. With 142.3 million, D’Amelio is not far behind.
Lame, who describes himself as a comedian and posts amusing films that parody clout-seeking influencers and their extravagant videos, has not yet responded to the historic occasion.
Khabby Lame moved to Italy with his parents the following year after being born in Senegal in 2000. He started working as a machine operator in the northern city of Turin after finishing high school until being fired in March 2020.
In an interview with Forbes published in March, Lame said, “The pandemic had just started, and I was bored with a lot of time on my hands, so I started shooting movies on TikTok. The young man started making parodies of TikTok videos where users demonstrated “easy” techniquesfor doing things like cutting their bangs and doing the dishes.
Lame, who is now studying English, primarily use visual humor in his videos, which are available to viewers anywhere.
The New York Times credited Lame’s success to his “everyman” traits in a story written last year.
His work doesn’t have the polished production value exhibited by the most well-known TikTok stars of the moment. His ascension has been completely natural, according to the newspaper.
But even though his videos seem straightforward, he told Forbes that he puts a lot of thinking into making them.
He said, “I spend at least three hours daily hunting for the ideal video to spoof. I always take care to avoid offending anyone with my videos, and I always choose to mimic jokes in a lighthearted manner.
Khabby Lame has an amazing reach and is one of the most prominent young people on the planet. His videos have received an astounding 2.3 billion likes in total, and each one typically receives tens of millions of views.
The actor claimed, however, that he is still in disbelief over his unanticipated ascent to stardom and that he soon hopes to go to Hollywood.
In his words, “I started doing this for pleasure, and I never expected anything of this. “My experiences have given me the drive to pursue my goals because I know that they are attainable with hard work and dedication.”
