The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in the United Kingdom said on Thursday that US actor Kevin Spacey has been charged with four charges of sexual assault against three men.

According to the CPS, Spacey was also charged with one count of inducing someone to engage in penetrative sexual intercourse without their consent. Two claimed incidents occurred in London in 2005, two more occurred in 2008, and a third occurred in Gloucestershire, western England, in 2013.

According to London’s Metropolitan Police, the accused victim of the 2005 assaults is now in his 40s, while the two individuals allegedly involved in the 2008 and 2013 incidents are now in their 30s.

According to the Metropolitan Police Service, the decision to charge Spacey “follows an assessment of the evidence acquired by the Metropolitan Police Service in its investigation.”

While the charges were approved on Thursday, Spacey is currently outside of England and Wales, and the charges will not be formally applied until he enters one of those countries, according to a CPS spokeswoman. If Spacey does not comply, the agency did not say if it would pursue his extradition.

Spacey earned two Academy Awards for his parts in “The Usual Suspects” and “American Beauty,” and from 2003 to 2015, he was creative director of London’s Old Vic theater.

He also just returned to acting after starring in Netflix’s political drama “House of Cards.”
